Monocular 3D Video Extensometer
When testing small specimens, Hopkinson impact testing requires equipment with high precision and high-speed response to capture the strain changes of the specimen within an extremely short time. However, conventional strain measurement equipment usually requires complex multi-camera systems to handle small specimens and high-speed dynamic testing, which not only increases equipment cost but also places higher demands on laboratory space and equipment layout.
1. Testing Requirements
The goal of this test was to precisely measure the dynamic strain of a small specimen under Hopkinson bar impact. The test environment required the equipment to achieve high-precision 3D strain measurement in a confined space while accommodating a small field of view. In addition, the equipment needed high dynamic response capability to capture the strain changes of the specimen at the instant of impact.
2. Solution
With monocular 3D DIC technology, the Haytham monocular 3D high-speed visual strain gauge completes high-speed DIC testing with only one set of high-speed camera and lens. This simple configuration greatly reduces system cost, and the compact size of the device makes it particularly suitable for small-field-of-view measurement in confined spaces.

In this small-specimen Hopkinson impact test, the Haytham monocular 3D high-speed visual strain gauge successfully captured and analyzed the strain changes of the specimen at the instant of impact. The high-precision strain data it provided helped the customer gain an in-depth understanding of the mechanical behavior of the material under high-speed impact, verified the dynamic performance of the specimen, and provided key data support for further material improvement.
