Residual Deformation Measurement of Drilled Welded Plates

Residual deformation measurementDIC displacement field measurement

In welded structure research, residual stress and residual deformation are important factors affecting component performance. Welded plates often require drilling or similar methods to analyze local residual stress release during machining, service, or subsequent testing. Here, customers focus on whether slight deformation occurs on the specimen surface before and after drilling, and in which regions it concentrates.

Conventional single-point measurement can capture data at discrete locations but can hardly present the complete evolution of the displacement and strain fields around the hole. For subtle, localized, continuously evolving processes such as residual stress release, a small number of measuring points is often not intuitive enough and hinders subsequent analysis.

Haytham Based on DIC vision measurement technology, a non-contact full-field measurement solution is provided for hole-drilling residual deformation measurement of welded plates. By acquiring and computing images before and after drilling, the system outputs the displacement and strain field changes on the specimen surface, helping customers intuitively observe the residual deformation distribution around the drilled region.

Requiring no contact with the specimen, the solution introduces no additional disturbance to the measured area and is well suited to capturing subtle deformation and its local evolution. By comparing full-field data before and after drilling, customers can analyze residual stress release characteristics and assess the influence of the welding process on local deformation, providing a basis for process improvement, structural verification, and quality evaluation.

For research on residual deformation of welded plates, vision-based full-field measurement provides not only data but also traceable image evidence, making test results more intuitive and complete.
