Digital image correlation (DIC) is an advanced non-contact optical measurement method widely used in materials science and engineering. It acquires deformation, displacement and strain data in real time by analyzing object surface images. DIC's core advantages are its high precision and non-destructiveness, making it an important tool of modern engineering testing.
In materials science, DIC is usedTesting the mechanical properties of materials, such as tension, compression and fatigue tests. Researchers usually apply random black-and-white dots on the surface of the material to be tested, forming a unique texture. When the test starts, the device captures the material's initial state image, then applies external force and records the deformed image. By comparing the two images, the DIC system computes the displacement and strain of each point, providing full-field strain distribution information.
In addition, DIC is applied instructural health monitoring it also performs excellently. It can track the safety status of buildings, bridges, tunnels and other structures in real time, ensuring project reliability. By monitoring structural deformation under external forces, DIC helps engineers identify potential safety hazards in time and reduce accident risk.
With the continuous progress of DIC technology, its application scope keeps expanding. Today, DIC is no longer limited to traditional material testing and structural monitoring, but is also applied in biomedical, aerospace and other fields. Through accurate measurement and analysis, DIC provides strong support for engineering and scientific research.
