Monocular 3D Video Extensometer
The double cantilever beam test is an important experimental method for studying the fracture toughness and crack propagation behavior of materials. In this test, the crack usually propagates along a prefabricated crack path; by measuring the propagation length, width, and trajectory of the crack, the fracture characteristics of the material can be understood in depth. Traditional crack propagation analysis methods are often limited by measurement accuracy and the complexity of data acquisition, while the Haytham monocular 2D video extensometer, by integrating multiple advanced analysis modes, provides a more precise and comprehensive solution for crack propagation research.
1. Testing Challenges
In a double cantilever beam test, the crack propagation process is complex, and the width, length, and trajectory of the crack all require precise monitoring. Moreover, since the specimen develops a complex strain field distribution during loading, accurately capturing and analyzing each key parameter of crack propagation becomes a major challenge in the test. Traditional methods usually require multiple repeated measurements to obtain complete crack propagation data, which is time-consuming and laborious and prone to measurement errors.
2. Experimental Procedure
In the double cantilever beam test, both ends of the specimen are fixed and force is applied at the ends of the cantilevers to initiate crack propagation. The Haytham monocular 2D video extensometer monitors the crack region throughout the process, using its edge detection mode analysis to capture the crack initiation point. As the load increases, the crack gradually propagates; the system measures the crack width, propagation length, and trajectory in real time and monitors the strain changes around the crack, ensuring precise recording of the entire propagation process.

4. Test Results
In the test, the Haytham monocular 2D video extensometer successfully recorded the entire process of the crack from initiation to propagation in the double cantilever beam specimen. The system precisely measured the crack width variation and propagation length, and plotted the complete crack propagation trajectory.

5. Application Significance
The application of the Haytham monocular 2D video extensometer in double cantilever crack propagation analysis greatly improves the accuracy and efficiency of crack propagation monitoring. Through the combined use of multiple modes, the system comprehensively captures the crack propagation process, providing high-quality data support for research on the fracture toughness of materials. This technology has broad application prospects in materials science, structural engineering, and other fields, and is especially suitable for complex experimental environments requiring high-precision crack monitoring.
