Monocular 3D Video Extensometer
Carbon fiber materials are widely used in aerospace, automotive, and sporting goods thanks to their excellent mechanical properties and light weight. However, shear performance is a key indicator of material behavior that directly affects the design and application optimization of composite parts. This experiment aimed to precisely evaluate the shear strength and deformation characteristics of carbon fiber materials, providing a scientific basis for structural design and material selection of related products.
1. Evaluate the shear strength and deformation characteristics of the carbon fiber material;
2. Analyze failure modes and strain distribution during shear;
3. Investigate differences in shear performance at different loading rates.
Haytham monocular 3D video extensometer(Click the text to view product details):
1. Monocular 3D DIC technology enables full-field 3D deformation and strain measurement with a single camera;
2. Records full-field deformation and strain distribution on the specimen surface during shear in real time;
3. Non-contact measurement avoids the accuracy issues of conventional strain gauge bonding.

Conventional shear testing requires strain gauges bonded to the material surface, but bonding errors or gauge positions away from the maximum stress area can limit data accuracy. Haytham's monocular 3D DIC technology offers the following advantages:
1. Full-field measurement: comprehensively records strain distribution over the entire specimen surface;
2. High resolution: identifies tiny stress concentration zones and crack initiation points;
3. Dynamic recording: observes the material's deformation behavior and its evolution in real time during loading;
4. Simplified setup: compared with conventional binocular DIC systems, it greatly reduces equipment complexity and cost, and the Haytham video extensometer uses standardized measurement without tedious calibration, allowing testing to start quickly
1. DIC produced full-field strain contours of the specimen surface, clearly showing the concentrated shear failure zone;
2. The data show that shear strength increases with loading rate, and the stress concentration points during deformation align with the crack propagation direction.
1. Technical validation: this test demonstrated Haytham'smonocular 3D video extensometer's efficiency and accuracy in composite shear testing;
2. Material optimization: based on the strain distribution data, the customer further optimized the laminate design of the carbon fiber material;
3. Solution upgrade: reliable experimental data support was provided for the subsequent development of high-performance composites.
The customer highly praised the performance of DIC technology in shear testing, noting that it greatly simplified the test workflow and delivered high-quality data that conventional methods struggle to obtain, significantly improving R&D efficiency.
