Elastic Modulus Measurement of Fire-Retardant Material Under Compression

Elastic modulusDIC technology

In compression deformation and elastic modulus testing of fire-protection materials, the material typically has low stiffness, high compressibility, and pronounced nonlinear mechanical response, with structural compaction and local collapse possible at the start of loading. Conventional contact displacement transducers or extensometers are affected by surface crumbling and unstable contact on such materials, causing large errors in compression deformation and modulus measurement. For this characteristic, Haytham Technology'sDIC digital image correlation measurement solution provides a stable, reliable non-contact means for measuring the compression modulus of fire-protection materials.

Haytham DICBased on optical imaging and correlation analysis, displacement and axial strain are computed for selected gauge regions on the specimen surface, obtaining deformation data during compression without contacting the specimen. This avoids the indentation effect of conventional contact measurement on low-strength porous materials and better reflects the material's overall compressive response.
