Materials Mechanics
Monocular 3D Video Extensometer
In compression testing of aerogel foam materials, the material features ultra-low density, high porosity, and pronounced structural non-uniformity; under compression it typically undergoes localized collapse, layer-by-layer compaction, and complex 3D deformation. Conventional contact extensometers or uniaxial displacement measurement can hardly reflect the true deformation state of the material during compression and are particularly poor at identifying local instability and lateral deformation characteristics. To address this testing challenge, Haytham Technology has introduced3D video extensometer, providing a reliable non-contact solution for full-field strain measurement in aerogel foam compression.

Haytham 3D video extensometerBased on 3D vision measurement and DIC algorithms, the system performs stereoscopic reconstruction of the deformation features on the specimen surface, capturing the complete 3D displacement field and full-field strain distribution during compressive loading. The method not only measures axial compressive strain accurately, but also simultaneously captures lateral contraction, localized bulging, and shear deformation, providing direct evidence for revealing the structural evolution of aerogel foam at different compression stages.
