Structural health monitoring (SHM) is a technology system that comprehensively applies sensors, data acquisition and analysis models to perform condition awareness and safety assessment of key structures.
Its core purpose is: without damaging the structure, to grasp in real time its state parameters such as deformation, vibration and load distribution, and thus judge whether there are potential risks such as damage, fatigue and settlement. Typical applications include bridges, dams, tunnels, high-rise buildings, slopes and other important infrastructure.
An SHM system usually consists of three major parts: sensing units (such as optical fibers, displacement gauges, vibration sensors, visual tracker etc.), data platforms (acquisition, transmission, storage) and evaluation algorithms (including threshold judgment, machine learning, etc.). With AI and big data integrated, structural monitoring is no longer limited to early warning but is evolving toward understanding and trend prediction, becoming key support for long-term infrastructure management and operation.
Traditional structural safety monitoring faces challenges such as complex wiring, poor environmental adaptability and difficult later maintenance. The new generation of structural monitoring technology gradually integrates IoT communication, edge computing and sensing networks, achieving breakthroughs between low maintenance cost and high operating efficiency.
Haytham structural health monitoring systemEquipped with multiple environmentally adaptable sensors, combined with edge processing nodes and a remote cloud platform, it runs stably in complex environments such as wind-sand, rainstorm and severe cold. The platform supports warning rule setting, historical data replay and remote management, and is widely used in key infrastructure such as high-pier bridges, high slopes, foundation pits and tunnels.
In addition, the system has flexible deployment capability: sensor modules support magnetic, bolt and adhesive fixing, facilitating quick installation in space-limited or sensitive areas. In multi-site deployments, the system has achieved 7×24 real-time operation, with data stability and network compatibility verified in actual engineering, providing safe and reliable technical support for O&M units.
